Looking up to the Lantern roof in the Octagon of Ely Cathedral 142 ft above the floor this spectacular view really requires a very wide angle lens to get it all in. At night, when lit the lantern can be sen from ten miles away across the fens. The Cathedral is known locally as the ship of the fens.
Taken in York Castle Museum which is well worth a visit. A victorian street scene has been created in the style of those at the Beamish Museum in County Durham, but this one is all under cover and quite amazing. The Museum takes it's name from the site which was at one time York Castle and then a Jail (where Dick Turpin was imprisoned before being hanged). The lamp has been picked out using Picasa 3 freeware from Google .
